  • Red Tailed Hawk -Hood. We are adding this immature female Red Tailed Hawk to our off site programs. She is blind in one eye, fully flighted, 1440 grams. it was known immedialtey she would not be releasable. She has been handled for over 4 month months/ 6 days a week and is kennel, glove and perch trained using traditioal methods. She is perched daily outside the office window of the center she is currently housed at, there is allot of activity and people present.

My question is will this bird need a hood? A falconer who says to get her used to the hood, are hoods necessary in your opinion?

We are planning to build on this RTHA training and continue with 6 day a week. We would like her to train her spread her wings for programs, perch calmly both on the perch and on the glove and fly glove to glove.
